Fearnley Finans AS was established in 1981 as a fully owned subsidiary of Astrup Fearnley. Its core business concept is to raise venture capital for real estate, shipping and offshore projects.

Increasing capital costs and finance needs of the shipping industry forced ship owners to seek supplementary equity sources outside their own companies. In close co-operation with ship owners Fearnley Finans presents new projects and arranges for private placements to selected investors. At the same time Fearnley Finans provides risk analyses and tax advice for alternative investment projects.

Traditionally Fearnley Finans has focused on the shipping segment, but at the start of 1990 investments in real estate gained attention. High interest rates and economic recession had driven the real estate prices downwards and with the right timing new business opportunities emerged.

Since then Fearnley Finans has organised the purchase of several hundred thousand square meters and reached a position as one of Norway’s 10 largest "real estate companies".

Our mother company, Astrup Fearnley, can trace its history back to 1869 when the founder, Thomas Fearnley, established a shipbroker and agency business in Oslo. Through four generations the company has thrived as a family held business.

Today the group consists of more than 300 dedicated people working on a global basis in the international shipping, offshore and financial markets.
